The Federation has been playing an effective role in helping to resolve the issues faced by the member colleges in constant liaison with the Government and affiliating Universities. It has effectively communicated views with Government, U.G.C, Universities, Commissions and other agencies on various policies/issues/problems pertaining to higher education and especially on issues faced by Muslim Minority institutions. It has fought several legal battles also on issues of minority rights in education.
By 1980 there were nine Arts & Science Colleges, seven Oriental Title colleges and one Teachers Training College under Muslim managements, affiliated to University of Calicut. Considering the extent of Muslim population in the university area which covered the seven northern districts of Kerala, these colleges were inadequate to meet the higher education needs of Muslim community. A need was felt for strengthening these colleges in terms of number and quality of courses and also of starting new institutions. Adequate representation of these institutions in various academic bodies of the University was also required. All these paved the way for the formation of a common platform of Managers and Principals of Aided Muslim colleges under Calicut University.
