A consultative meeting of the Managers and Principals of Aided Muslim colleges were held at M.E.S Hostel at Calicut under the Chairmanship of Dr.M.A Abdulla on April 7,1980 and appointed an Ad hoc Committee consisting of Prof.M.A Shukoor, Moulavi P. Kuttassery and Prof.C.A. Abdussalam (Convener) to prepare a scheme for the formation of an Association of Managers and Principals of Muslim Colleges.The Committee recommended the formation of an association styled as “The Federation of Muslim Colleges,Calicut” and submitted a draft constitution. These proposals were approved at the meeting of Managers and Principals, held at MES Womens’ College Calicut on 19 th April 1980.

The aims and objectives approved were:

  • To bring together Managers and Principals of Muslim Colleges to study the academic and administrative problems facing them and to evolve by common consultation satisfactory solutions for them;
  • To promote higher education, eradicate educational backwardness and improve standard and quality of education among the people in general and Muslims in particular, of Calicut University area;and
  • To secure for Managers and Principals of Muslim colleges adequate representation in University bodies and other authorities and Committees on Education and act as an effective voice in the formulation and implementation of educational policy.
  • The organistation was registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 at Calicut with Register No.S.161/1986.
  • A significant achievement of Federation of Muslim Colleges is the establishment of the Chair for Islamic Studies & Research under Calicut University in 1988, by instituting the required corpus fund.
  • The rules and Regulations of the organization were later suitably amended by extending area of operation to the entire state of Kerala and other affiliating universities of the state and incorporating several new provisions for the effective functioning of the Association.
  • The Federation has been playing an effective role in helping to resolve the issues faced by the member colleges in constant liaison with the Government and affiliating Universities. It has effectively communicated views with Government, U.G.C, Universities, Commissions and other agencies on various policies/issues/problems pertaining to higher education and especially on issues faced by Muslim Minority institutions. It has fought several legal battles also on issues of minority rights in education.

About Us
